What it does

Master gear catalog

Every piece of gear with photo, brand and model, weight, sack or pocket location, and notes. Group by category — Core Gear, Clothing, Food and Water, whatever you organize by. Link out to the product page for quick re-orders.

Per-trip packing lists

Build a packing list for any trip from your master catalog in seconds. Check items off as you pack. Watch packed weight vs total weight update live so there are no surprises at the trailhead.

Day-pack sublists

Nest a sublist under any trip for short side trips and day hikes. Items cascade up automatically — what's in the day pack is also counted in the parent trip's load. One level deep, one sublist per trip.

Everyday Carry

A separate, permanent EDC list for the gear you carry every day — wallet, knife, flashlight, phone. Independent from trip lists. Show or hide the EDC tab from Settings.

Cover photos for trips

Set a hero photo for each trip — Machu Picchu, Camino, weekend backcountry — so your list feels like more than a spreadsheet.

PDF + JSON export

Export any trip as a clean printable PDF — packing list, brand, weight, notes. For backup, export your entire library as a single JSON file with embedded photos. Import on any device.

Automatic daily backups

RidgePacker quietly snapshots your library every day and keeps the last two weeks inside the app. Restore from a backup at any time.

Privacy first

Everything is stored on your device. No accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, no tracking. Your gear and trips are yours.

Frequently asked questions

What is RidgePacker?

RidgePacker is the iPhone and iPad app for hikers, backpackers, and weekend adventurers who actually plan what goes in their pack. Keep a master catalog of every piece of gear with photo, weight, brand, and notes — then build a packing list for any trip in seconds. Track packed weight versus total weight, nest a day-pack sublist under any trip, keep a permanent Everyday Carry list, and export trips as a clean printable PDF.

How do I build a packing list for a trip?

Create a trip, then pick items from your gear catalog — RidgePacker pulls in the weight and details automatically. Check items off as you pack. The header shows your packed weight running against the trip total so you know exactly what you are carrying before you leave the house.

What is a sublist?

A sublist is a child trip nested under a parent trip — for example, a "Day Pack" under "Machu Picchu" containing just the gear you take on day hikes. Items in a sublist are automatically counted as part of the parent trip too, so nothing gets double-booked or forgotten. Each trip can have one sublist, one level deep.

What is the Everyday Carry (EDC) tab?

A separate, permanent list for the gear you actually carry every day — wallet, knife, flashlight, phone, AirPods, whatever lives on you. Independent from your trip lists so it never gets mixed up. You can hide the EDC tab in Settings if you do not need it.

How does export and backup work?

Two options. Export any trip as a clean printable PDF — packing list with brand, weight, and notes per item, ready to share or print. For a full backup, export your entire library as a single JSON file with all photos embedded, then import it on any device. RidgePacker also keeps automatic daily backups inside the app for two weeks.

Are my photos and gear data stored in the cloud?

No. Everything lives on your device. No accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, no tracking. If you want to move data to another device, use the JSON export — you control where it goes.

Will it work on my iPad?

Yes. RidgePacker is a universal app — same code, runs natively on iPhone and iPad. iOS 17 or later is required.

What does Pro cost?

Free to download. The Gear catalog is always free. The Trips and Everyday Carry tabs are unlocked with RidgePacker Pro — monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription. Both plans come with a 3-day free trial. Tap Settings inside the app for current pricing in your region.
